Pictures from the Most Intense New Year's Eve Ever!
On December 31, 1998, I spent the night and much of the morning in Atlanta, GA at the Roxy Theatre to see a double bill of the Derek Trucks Band and Gov't Mule. Derek and his band took the stage right around 10:00 P.M. and were joined by special guests Col. Bruce Hampton and Jimmy Herring. The Mule took the stage around 11:30 P.M. and rung in the New Year with an incredible version of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs." Throughout the night they were joined by special guests that included:
Apparently many people did not heed Warren Haynes' 1:30 A.M. advice to "pace yourselves, we got a long way to go" as there were countless people passed out around the place by 2 A.M. Gov't Mule launched into their encore of Mongo Santamaria's "Afro-Blue" at 3:45 A.M. and said goodnight at 4:20 A.M. Words fail to describe this performance.
